Aliya Jankowski, LMSW

Licensed Masters Social Worker
Aliya graduated from Wichita State University in 2020 with a BA in psychology. She received her Master’s in Social Work from the University of Kansas in May 2024.
She comes to FPS with a diverse background of experiences working with children, teens, adults, and families. During her time at Wichita State University, she completed an internship and later employment with the Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center. She has three years of experience working with child, teen, and adult survivors of sexual and domestic violence. During her time at KU, Aliya completed an internship with Bert Nash on the WRAP Team where she focused on practicing individual therapy with elementary-aged students in the school setting. She also has experience working in child welfare and comes with nearly two years of experience providing crisis interventions and support to individuals and families in the community.
Aliya’s approach to therapy is one of warmth, compassion, and sincerity. She acknowledges the strength it takes to show up to the first appointment and begin a new journey of self-discovery and growth. Her work is grounded in the strengths perspective—the belief that all individuals have the ability to create impactful change in their own lives. She aims to challenge negative self-talk and help individuals see that they are more resilient than they may think.
Aliya strives to guide individuals toward their goals through the lenses of systems theory and the person-in-environment perspective. She understands that individual interactions are shaped by the environments we live in, thus she works with clients to identify both internal and external stressors. She values client choice and empowerment by working to identify meaningful goals and celebrating small wins. She understands the importance of trust in therapy and works to create an open and nonjudgmental space in which individuals can feel safe and heard.
Aliya acknowledges the importance of intersectionality, lived experience, and client expertise on their own lives and situations. She understands that there is no one-size-fits all approach to therapy and enjoys tailoring her work with clients to best suit their needs. She achieves this by providing psychoeducation and teaching skills from various treatment modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Rational-Emotive Behavior Therapy (REBT), and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT). She will also be pursuing additional training in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as a member of FPS.
Aliya is also taking specialized training the eating disorder recovery and welcomes families struggling with food-related difficulties.
